    • Service Line Warranty Canada (SLWC) Spring Campaign Offer

Back in September 2022, the Town partnered with SLWC to offer Hawkesbury homeowners protection plans to help cover the potentially expensive repair costs associated with their portion of water and sewer service lines. These plans, offered by SWLC, are used by over 1000 cities, municipalities, and utilities across North America, including over 65 in Ontario.

The Town of Hawkesbury is letting homeowners know that they may receive a reminder letter regarding these protection plans in the upcoming weeks from SLWC. The letter will again include the Town’s logo to assure that this offering is legitimate.

Please note that participation is optional and voluntary for homeowners in Hawkesbury and that it is not a Town program. Please visit www.slwofc.ca for frequently asked questions and links to additional information.

Drinking water

All properties in Town are connected to a water meter and the cost for water and sewer services is charged on a combination of fixed fees and consumption.

Despite the fact that taxpayers are paying for what they use, we encourage saving this precious natural resource.

Water meters are reliable but if you think yours is not working properly, call the Technical Services Department at (613) 632-0106 extension 2020. You will be given tips to see if it works properly. Following the results, we could arrange for a visit. Before going to your place, you will be informed of applicable fees.

Fire hydrants

Each spring fire hydrants are flushed by the Town. A notice is posted on the Website informing residents.

It is forbidden for anyone to use water from a fire hydrant.

Pools

Tankers wishing to get water for pools may fill directly from the water filtration plant at a very good price. Payment must be made prior to the Finance Department.

Sewer problems

Your sewer line is blocked. Before you proceed with its cleaning outside the walls of your house, you must contact Ontario One Call at 1-800- 400-2255. It is possible that a natural gas line was installed in a way that it crossed through a sewer line. For your own protection, your family’s and neighbours’, call Ontario One Call, a free service available 24/7.

Who is responsible?

Landowners are responsible for the maintenance of the lateral sewer connecting to the municipal system. If you have sewer backflow problems, before you call the Town, hire a plumber who will determine where the problem is located. If after inspection, the blockage is on the Town’s side, the Town will have the repairs done as soon as possible and you will be entitled to a refund of expenses encountered up to a maximum of $760.00, upon submitting the invoice.
