What you should know

Criminal record check

You will be required to work with vulnerable groups of the population. Thus, all applicants must provide a criminal record vulnerable sector check on the day of the interview.

To obtain your criminal record check, you must contact your district police. It takes time, thus your request must be made well before the interview.

BY-LAW OFFICER

(MUNICIPAL PROPERTY STANDARDS’ PROFILE)

(Full time permanent, unionized position)

variable schedule of 40 hours per week (day, evening, weekend)

Competition # 2019-10

Under the supervision of the Deputy-Clerk, the Officer is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury’s municipal by-laws, property standards, zoning, environment and disturbance matters. This by-law Officer is the contact person within the By-law Officers’ team for any files/records regarding maintenance and tenancy standards.

Skills and knowledge

The successful candidate will be required to obtain his certification as a Property Standards Officer and Municipal Law Enforcement Officer as soon as possible.

The ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of construction standards, combined with experience in interpreting and enforcing municipal by-laws, legal court procedures, laws and regulations. The person will be managing multiple files simultaneously and will have to demonstrate an analytical mind, great organizational skills, an ease in writing detailed reports and a good team spirit.

The candidate will have a great ability to resolve conflicts and promote the integrity of legislation and regulations for the overall image of the Council and of the municipality. Because of the responsibility to enforce laws and regulations, the person must be able to represent authority, while demonstrating tact and diplomacy at all times.

Other requirements

  • Hold a postsecondary diploma in construction, building inspections or related field
  • Three to five years of experience in a related field
  • Hold a valid Class G Driver’s License in good standing
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English (oral and written)
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

HORTICULTURIST

Municipal Buildings

(Seasonal unionized position, 40 hours/week)

For the period of May 5th, until October 12, 2019

Competition #: 2019-09

Under the supervision of the Municipal Buildings’ Superintendent, the Horticulturist looks after the trees, shrubs, plants, flowerbeds and landscaping on municipal properties (mainly the Town Hall)

Requirements

  • Required Secondary School Diploma
  • Training course in horticulture and/or landscaping
  • Hold two to three years of relevant experience (horticulture, landscape maintenance)
  • Hold a valid certification on safety use of pesticides
  • Training on chainsaw handling
  • Basic knowledge on pests
  • Basic knowledge on compatible plants
  • Knowledge of soil’s characteristics
  • Basic knowledge of pruning trees and shrub       
  • Possess physical strength and endurance

JOB OFFER 

CLERK level III - CLERK’S OFFICE

(Full time unionized position, one year contract, may become permanent)

Under the authority of the Town’s clerk, the clerk level III performs a variety of general administrative support tasks related to the Clerk and municipal regulation departments. Among other responsibilities, the clerk level III sees to the preparation, translation and posting of agendas, minutes or other communications and welcomes visitors at the Clerk’s office or regulations department.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary school diploma in office administration or equivalent
  • One to three years of relevant experience
  • Fluently bilingual (French and in English) both in speaking and writing 
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Suite
  • Team player
  • Knowledge of of ICity and Joomla software (an asset)

Civil Engineering (Public Works)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising work on construction sites
  • Complete Road Cut Permits
  • Participate in the management of Municipal Consents
  • Gather information on road infrastructures by way of a portable GPS
  • Inspect road signs and complete technical study for some intersections
  • Conduct all other duties requested by the Project Manager
  • Provide support to the public works team by participating in daily tasks

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Youth Program

STUDENT SUMMER JOB

 Duration: 7 weeks – from July 8 to August 23, 2019

Schedule: 30-35 hours/week, Monday to Friday daytime + July 1st, 2019

Brief description:

  • Animate and organize activities in the town’s parks for and with youth aged 4 to 12 years
  • Work toward creating trustworthy relationships with youth
  • Ensure the safe operations of the Club and maintenance of premises
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training, planning periods
  • Intervene with youth when conflicts arise, find solutions and alternatives
  • Ensure communication, interventions follow-ups with parents
  • Participate in events and outings organized in the park neighbourhood

The Recreation and Culture Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Aquafitness Instructor to plan and instruct aquatic fitness classes at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex.

  • High School Diploma
