Alert message

First, we would like to wish you a happy new year 2020.

Here at the Town of Hawkesbury, we take the initiative to inform you on what is going on here adequately and quickly. In French and in English. We believe that our vision of communication can make a difference and will engage with you a positive and sustained relationship, which, at the end, will lead to citizen mobilization. An informed and committed community paired with attentive and responsible municipal employees is the movement we want to establish here.

2019 has been a great year for Hawkesbury. The nomination of the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital as the second best in Canada for great health care and the arrival of the new CT Scan will allow HGH to stand out even more and serve the population throughout the territory. The construction of the Ecolomundo tire recycling plant has started, and several quality jobs will be offered, a plus for our region. Several public consultations were held; housing, Confederation Park and the budget are just a few. In short, lots of things are happening in Hawkesbury!

2019 was also the year in which the Town of Hawkesbury adopted its first communication plan, which sets short, medium and long-term goals. You can consult it by following this link:

2020 will be a busy year for Hawkesbury. The three-year pilot project as a ‘Communauté francophone accueillante’ will begin on April 1st. In this regard, several Mayor’s breakfasts are planned in order to inform our citizens and to clarify certain prejudices. Several major capital expenditures are also planned, such as the paving of certain streets, the repair of several sidewalks and curbs and the purchase of new equipment. The new OPP station will open its doors next September with the arrival of a safe trade zone for Internet purchase.

2020 will also be a year where the pride of living in Hawkesbury will be seen and passed on. Telmatik, a tool that allows us to communicate with you in an emergency situation on your home phone, by text message and by email. You can sign up for free on our Web site. We also have laid the groundwork for our electronic Newsletter, which will be emailed to you on a regular basis soon. You can register now for free, again also on our Web site. A welcome kit for new residents will also be developed along the way.

A priority for us is the standardization of all the banners in construction zones in order to keep you inform, so you know the extent of the work. Downtown revitalization is another priority for us. As you can see, we are making a strong commitment to our citizens. The information we share with you on our Web site and here on our Facebook page is useful and up to date. It will allow you to follow the progress in our current and future plans.

We will announce shortly the biggest party of the year for Canada Day. A two-day party ending with fireworks on July 1st.

We strongly believe that as a citizen of Hawkesbury, you have your say and we strongly encourage you to attend our Town Council meetings, which are held regularly twice a month at Town Hall.

Happy new year to everyone,

Yvan Ruel

Communications coordinator
