The Importance of Culture in Hawkesbury

Culture within a community is important for several reasons. It conveys both individual and collective identity, thus strengthening social cohesion and a sense of belonging to a community. In Hawkesbury, as in many other communities, culture enables the transmission of values, customs, and traditions, while preserving history. By prioritizing this, the Town of Hawkesbury stands out as a place that promotes open-mindedness, respect for differences, and tolerance. Culture, therefore, becomes a vehicle for intercultural dialogue, and Hawkesbury’s involvement through cultural activities enhances quality of life, entertainment, social cohesion, and fosters intercultural synergy.

Multicultural Festival

The Multicultural Festival was born of a desire to discover and immerse oneself in the values of several cultures, creating a new synergy by using culture as a common ground. In partnership with the “Communauté francophone accueillante” initiative, the first edition took place in 2022. Since then, the event has grown in popularity.

The success of this initiative was felt by over 20,000 participants who attended the three days of celebrations. With over 20 shows, games and family activities, as well as many cultural discoveries, the Town of Hawkesbury succeeded in achieving several objectives: encouraging culture, stimulating the local economy, energizing our downtown, establishing a discovery niche and reinforcing rural vitality.

The Hawkesbury Multicultural Festival is held at Pioneers' Place on Main Street East in Hawkesbury.

The Festival usually occurs during the last weekend of June.
