24 avril - 12 juin - 25 septembre - 13 novembre - 12 mars
Born in Avignon, France in 1951, Didier Chasteau is 10 years old when he starts piano lessons in the city of Nice. Music has been in his life ever since.
While in his teens, Didier Chasteau discovered jazz, harmony and the joy of composing. Recognized as a young prodigy at the age of 17, he is invited on several television shows and is offered a tour of France’s many cities. From then on, he never stops playing and continues his learning experience with talented musicians, polishing up his compositions and his technique of improvisation.
In 1972, during the Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival, Didier Chasteau is noticed by Shirley Scott, a great organist and pianist. This association leads him to the Avignon Festival in 1978. He then plays with trumpet player Joe Newman as well as Jeff Hamilton, Oscar Peterson’s drummer, and more recently, Diana Krall’s drummer.
In 1995, he records his CD “Relations” and takes part in the Nice Jazz Festival. Throughout the years, Didier Chasteau opens the shows of famous musicians like Chet Baker and Lou Bennett. We then find him with Skip Bey, Oliver Jones’ bass player and Quebec bass players Michel Donato, Daniel Lessard and Charles Biddle of the famous Biddle’s Jazz Restaurant & Bar in Montréal.
